Yizkor Memorial Book

In Jewish tradition, Yizkor books were prepared as a way to memorialize the lives of the dead. The word Yizkor means remembrance. To remember the communities that were created inside these institutions, students have written an eight chapter book that connects the stories of the Metropolitan State Hospital and Fernald School to the nation’s disability history and our history as a whole. These stories tell us so much about who we were and raise important questions about who we want to be.

An advance edition of this book was made available in late 2019. The book is now being revised to include updated biographies from our work. An accessible digital edition will be made available by the end of 2020.
