Historical Markers & Cemetery Restoration
June 1st, 2020
Through an intensive design review process, students have created three historical markers intended to be placed at the MetFern Cemetery and at the nearby parking lot entrance to the grounds. With funding from the Ruderman Family Foundation and the City of Waltham, these signs will be finalized when a full review of the biographies of the people buried in the MetFern Cemetery is complete.
Through the tireless efforts of City Councilor George A. Darcy, III, the Waltham City Council endorsed a Community Preservation Act grant to fund the restoration of the cemetery, building off of an earlier restoration that was initiated by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. In keeping with state historic preservation laws, the stones will not be replaced, but will be re-set. The grounds will also be regraded, ensuring the proper preservation of this site.
