Henry Leahy

C-43

Henry Leahy was born in Massachusetts around February 1889. His parents were likely born in Ireland, though it appears that Henry was not raised by them. By the time he was 10, Henry was living with Daniel and Helen Riordan in Brockton, Mass., as a boarder. On May 27, 1916, he was “legally committed as insane,” to the Tewksbury Hospital in Tewksbury, Mass. A World War I draft registration filled out on his behalf describes him as short and slender with blue eyes and black hair. By 1935, he had been transferred to the Metropolitan State Hospital. He lived there for the rest of his life and died on June 29, 1955, at 64 years old. Henry Leahy was buried in plot C-43 of the MetFern Cemetery in Waltham, Mass. No birth or death certificate has yet been located for Leahy. His life and background are among the least understood of the people buried in the MetFern Cemetery. *A birth certificate for Henry Leahy has not yet been obtained. Specific details regarding his exact date of birth and parentage may be subject to revision.
